Taming the Zend beast
Recently I’ve been seeing Zend Framework pop up more and more. Since the aim of a framework is to “provide a skeleton application” that basically saves me, the developer, time; I was interested. I read somewhere recently that programmers often spend hours upon hours writing code to do a job that would take them fifteen minutes. This couldn’t be more true.
So on Friday my copy of “Practical Web 2.0 Applications with PHP” arrived. I’m not new to the concept of OOP, so I thought learning Zend (which relies on Object-Oriented PHP) would be a breeze. Whilst not difficult, it is proving somewhat long winded. I’ve read through four whole chapters in the book and still my Zend based application only says an impressive Hello, World!.
So there we have it, spending an entire weekend learning how to do something that would of taken me somewhere in the region of four seconds. ![]()
